Urgent: Contact your Texas State representative and urge them to vote “NO” on two aquifer-polluting bills, HB 2861 by Phillips and HB 2959 by Isaac.
HB 2861 – would deliver private toll roads to Travis County.  This bill would authorize TxDOT to contract with private toll road developers to build toll lanes on I-35 thru Austin and on South Mopac and US 290 West over the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer. If approved, these deals afford even less accountability for toll road development than we have today. Sadly, Rep. Celia Israel of north Travis County is co-sponsoring. The full house is set to vote on this bill May 4th.  Please call or email your representative now!  (See contact information below.)
HB 2959
This bill would force the City of Austin to extend water and wastewater service to developers in the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone. The bill was tailor-made for developers after the City of Austin denied the service request due to environmental concerns. This bill is not intended to help Hays City residents (who do not need these services), but rather to support high-density development on the Recharge Zone.
Please contact your representative at the phone numbers and email addresses below and tell them to ‘VOTE NO on HB 2861 and HB 2959:
