It’s time for the best holiday party and silent auction in Austin hosted by Save Our Springs Friday, December 4th at the American Legion Charles Johnson House.

It’s all about being local! The party will feature delicious locally made food, awesome music, lots of interesting folks and our biggest silent auction yet!

This year’s party place features heritage oak trees, scenic views of Lady Bird Lake, beautiful spaces inside and out, and plenty of parking. We’ll also see up close and personal the harm that would be done by the proposed Mopac expansion over the lake, Zilker Park, and the Barton Springs recharge zone.

Snorkeling Group at Barton Springs Fest, August 2014

Dear Friend of Barton Springs,

As you can see from this photo, Barton Springs is still beautiful.

With your support, we have worked as Austin's water watchdog almost every day for 22 years to bring the best information, ideas, arguments, love, and commitment to the save our springs challenge.   The springs are not yet saved, but we have made an enormous difference.

Click here to read the SOS and Hill Country conservation highlights of 2014.

But we still need your help in 2015 to keep our lawyers, educators and activists working to keep Barton Springs clean and flowing in the face of unprecedented growth.

If you can, please consider a tax-deductible donation to SOS.

Thank you and warmest wishes for a joyous holiday season.  We hope to see you at the  New Year's Day Splash at Barton Springs!

"Remember the Ogallala" Saturday; Art for SOS this weekend;  "Yakona" Sunday and SBCA party Monday

Join us for 4 important events this weekend and Monday.

This Saturday, the Texas League of Independent Voters is hosting the "Remember the Ogallala, Remember Vista Ridge" water forum in Wimberley from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. SOS Executive Director Bill Bunch will be speaking on a panel at 11:30. The event is free and open to the public: bring your own lunch or buy one there for $10. Mega-water schemes are afoot across our region: this is a great opportunity to find out what's really going on and how you can make a difference. Get the details and RSVP for your free seat at the link.

Join us Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the East Austin Studio Tour with Artist Barry George. Please join Save Our Springs Alliance at Barry George's Studio for this year's East Austin Studio Tour (EAST).

Local artist, master metal sculptor and activist, Barry George, is very generously donating 100% of his proceeds to SOS. Here is his studio listing in the tour program. Check out some of his sculptures on our facebook page.

All of Barry's work is either inspired by environmental action and political/social comment. Besides his own work, Barry has amazing, funky pieces of arts, crafts, and found objects that he collected while searching for materials for his own sculptures.  Our heartfelt thanks go to Barry for donating years of his amazing work to SOS.

On Sunday, see the Film Yakona with Live Music at The North Door. This is the last night for the screening of the movie about the San Marcos River, Yakona, with LIVE performances by the musicians who did the score for the film. The venue, The North Door, is at E. 5th, one block east of 35, and it is a musical venue made from a building that was once a sound stage.   Get your tickets in advance here or at the door, $10 or $12.  Doors open 8:30 p.m., event starts at 9:00 p.m.

Then join the Save Barton Creek Association on Monday night for the SBCA annual meeting and party  at the Zilker Clubhouse.

All are invited to this long-standing community tradition - enjoy great food, drink, live music from Bill Oliver and his Otter Space Band, and join the Save Barton Creek Assn., a founder and close ally of SOS. If you have never been to the Zilker Clubhouse, do it Monday night. The festivities run from 6 until 10 p.m.
