Vote today! The City of Austin, Cedar Park and Leander all have elections today for each city's mayor and two or three city council seats. San Marcos has a school board election. Polls are open until 7:00 p.m. With low voter turnout, your ballot counts even more.
Barton Springs pool is closed today due to flooding. Deep Eddy is open. Barton Creek is beautifu,l but recent rainfall runoff means pathogen counts will be high for another day or two. A good rule of thumb - when the water clears up it is generally safe for swimming.
Barton Springs grounds improvements get better -- Last Wednesday the Joint Parks and Environmental Board committee on Barton Springs Pool upgrades voted unanimously to recommend that the "art in public places" sculpture be placed outside the fenced pool area. The decision came following a huge outpouring of opposition to a proposed deck, trail, and sculpture mounting at the top of the south side hill. Over 60 people attended the special called meeting at the south gate of the springs.
At the same meeting, the committee postponed until June further consideration of a proposed new ornamental fence and gate and new, larger pre-fab gate house. The June meeting will look at the overall plan for the south (back gate) side of the pool.
Thanks so much to everyone who spoke up in favor of preserving the south hill and keeping the entire south side of Barton Springs natural and undeveloped. We will provide more details on the June meeting when they are available.
